If you’re thinking about earning crypto for free, you might have heard of Grass (formerly known as
GetGrass). It’s one of the trending platforms that lets you earn crypto passively — just by sharing your internet connection.
But before you join, take a few minutes to read this full review. I’ll explain how Grass works, how to claim your rewards, when payouts happen, and most importantly — whether it's safe to use or
not.
I’ll also share the rewards I claimed from Grass during the first round of airdrop rewards towards the end of this article — so you’ll get a real idea of this platform’s actual potential if you actively share your connection.
Read the full review and then decide if Grass is the right platform for you to try.
⚠️Important Note: This platform isn’t for everyone. It needs patience and consistency. If you’re looking for immediate rewards for your contribution, this might not be for you. Keep this in mind and start reading the article.
What Is Grass.io?
Grass.io is a unique DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) platform that rewards everyday people — like you and me — for sharing their internet connection.
But why does it need your internet? Grass uses your shared connection to collect publicly available data from the web in real-time. This data is then used to help train AI models for well-known AI labs around the world.
Grass didn’t just appear overnight. It began its journey in June 2023 under the name GetGrass.io and stayed in beta for about 7 months (until January 2024). The official launch happened in February 2024, but users had to wait until October 2024 to receive their first round of airdrop rewards.
In April 2025, the platform rebranded from GetGrass to just Grass — a name that also represents its official crypto token, GRASS.
Today, over 2 million users are sharing their internet through Grass and are now waiting to receive their second round of crypto airdrop rewards.
Device Compatibility – Where Can You Use Grass?
Grass is currently available as a dedicated app for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, so you can start earning by sharing your internet directly from your computer.
A mobile app for Android is currently in the testing phase. Right now, it’s available only for internal testing — limited to developers, users who staked a large portion of their tokens received during the round 1 airdrop, and long-time beta users who’ve been contributing since the early days.
The Android app download link is available on Grass’s official website and user dashboard — but it’s password protected and intended only for internal testing. The password will be removed once the app becomes publicly available.
The public rollout is expected to begin gradually after July/August 2025 — so stay tuned!
The iOS app is expected to launch sometime after October 2025.
There’s also a Chrome extension you can install on your PC browser to sharing your internet right away. And if you’re on mobile, you can still use the extension through browsers that support extensions — like Mises or Kiwi.
🔔 Heads-up: The Grass team has announced that the Chrome extension will be phased out after the second round of airdrop reward distribution, so it’s a great time to take advantage of it while it’s still active.
Who Can Join Grass?
Anyone, from anywhere in the world, can join Grass!
Since Grass is a global DePIN network, you just need an internet connection to start contributing and earning rewards — no special skills or location limits.
How to Get Started with Grass?
Getting started with Grass is super easy. Just follow these quick steps to begin earning:
What Are Grass Points?
When you share your internet or take part in other activities on Grass, you earn Grass Points — the platform’s way of tracking your contributions.
These points don’t have any direct value on their own, but they play an important role. Grass uses them to calculate how many GRASS tokens you’ll receive when the next airdrop (reward round) goes live.
📌 I’ll break down exactly how Grass Points are calculated and how they convert into GRASS tokens later in this article — so keep reading!
Earning Opportunities on Grass
Grass isn’t just about sharing your internet — it also offers a few extra ways to boost your rewards. Let’s take a quick look at all the earning opportunities available on the platform.
Option 1: Share Your Internet Connection
Sharing your internet connection is the main way to earn on Grass. You earn Grass Points based on how long your connection stays active on their network — and the quality of your connection also matters.
Grass sets your connection quality based on your country:
- 100% quality for Tier 1 countries
- 75% quality for all other countries
Option 2: Refer and Earn
Another great way to earn on Grass is by inviting others to join using your referral link.
When someone joins using your link and starts sharing their internet connection, you’ll earn 20% bonus Grass Points based on what they earn.
🎁 Extra Bonus: If your referral shares their connection for 100 hours, you’ll also get a one-time bonus of 2,500 Grass Points.
But it doesn’t stop there. Grass also rewards you for second- and third-level referrals:
- 🧑🤝🧑 10% bonus from your referral’s referrals
- 👥 5% bonus from the next level (your referral’s referral’s referrals)
Option 3: Connection Hours Bonus
Grass rewards you with a one-time bonus of 5,000 Grass Points when you share your connection for a total of 100 hours. It’s an easy way to earn extra just by keeping your device connected and active!
Option 4: Milestone Bonuses
Grass rewards you with extra bonus points when you hit certain milestones — by earning Grass Points or referring active users. These are called Tier Bonuses, and there are 10 levels in total.
To unlock each bonus level, you need to either:
- Earn a set number of Grass Points (from connection sharing, referrals, or a combination of both), or
- Refer a certain number of active users (a referral is considered active only after sharing their connection for 100 hours)
How Much Can You Earn on Grass?
One of the most common questions people ask before trying any platform is: How much can I actually earn? Grass is no different.
Well, the truth is — there’s no exact answer. Your earnings on Grass depend on several key factors. But don’t worry — I’ll explain what really affects your rewards and how you can get the most out of it.
What Affects Your Earnings?
⌛ 1. Connection Hours
The longer your devices stay connected to the Grass network, the more Grass Points you earn — and more points can lead to more GRASS tokens during each reward drop.
🖥️ 2. Number of Devices
Running Grass on multiple devices increases your total connection time, which helps you rack up more points and earn more token rewards.
🌐 3. Number of Networks (IPs)
If all your devices are on the same network (IP), your reward points will be reduced. To earn full points on each device, connect them to different networks (IPs) — this gives you the best chance of earning more tokens.
💹 4. GRASS Token Value
The value of the GRASS token plays a big role in what your rewards are actually worth.
- Launch price: $0.60
- All-time low after launch: $1.25
- All-time high: $3.95
🧠 Smart Tips to Earn More:
- Keep Grass running for longer hours
- Use multiple devices
- Connect each device to a different IP
- Bring in more active referrals who consistently share their connection
Doing this helps you collect more Grass Points — which increases your chances of receiving more GRASS tokens in each airdrop round.
Is It Safe to Share Your Internet with Grass?
Grass is designed with user safety in mind. It uses multiple security layers across its network to help protect your privacy.
It only uses your internet connection to collect publicly available data — which is then used to train AI models. It never accesses your personal files or device storage. Grass simply routes traffic through your public IP address — nothing more.
So yes, it’s mostly safe to use. But let’s be honest — any time you share your internet, there’s always a small risk involved. And this doesn’t just apply to Grass — it’s a common trade-off with all bandwidth-sharing platforms.
How Often Does Grass Drop Airdrop Rewards?
This is something very important to know before joining Grass: Grass doesn’t drop airdrop rewards every few months, and there’s no fixed schedule.
Each airdrop is part of a stage-based system, and rewards are only given out after a stage is complete. These stages can last several months — or even over a year, depending on how the project progresses.
🛠️ Stage 1: “Building the Network”
- Duration: June 2023 to October 2024 (16 months)
- Airdrop rewards were distributed on October 14, 2024 — the official end date of Stage 1
- Started in October 2024 and is expected to run until end of 2025
- If things go as planned, we may see the next airdrop between October and December 2025
- But this could change — the timeline is fully decided by the Grass team
How Are Grass Points Converted Into GRASS Tokens?
A common question many people ask is: How many Grass Points equal 1 GRASS token?
Well, the truth is — there’s no fixed conversion rate.
It all depends on the stage, your activity, and how other users are performing during the same period.
How Token Allocation Works
At the start of every Stage, the Grass team sets aside a specific portion of the total 1 billion token supply for airdrop rewards:
- Stage 1: 10% of the supply
- Stage 2: 17% of the supply
- Future Stages: May increase or decrease depending on project progress, expected profits, and estimated user participation
What Is an Epoch?
Each stage is broken down into monthly cycles called Epochs. The total tokens allocated for the stage are evenly split across all its Epochs.
During each Epoch:
- Your Grass Points are tracked
- You’re placed into one of 9 user tiers
- Tokens are distributed based on your tier and activity
How Tiers Affect Your Rewards
Your total points for the Epoch are compared to other users in the same Epoch, and you’re then placed into a tier (Tier 1 to Tier 9).
For each tier, Grass sets a certain number of Grass Points as the requirement to get into that tier — and this threshold is determined based on the total number of points from all users in that
Epoch. If you meet the required points for a specific tier, you’ll be placed in it.
Your tier level can change with each Epoch based on the total Grass Points you earn during that specific period compared to others in the same Epoch.
To get into the top tier (Tier 1), you’ll need to earn the highest number of points among all users in that Epoch.
✅ Tier 1 users need fewer points to earn 1 GRASS token
🚫 Tier 9 users need many more points to earn the same
Your tier decides how efficiently your points convert into tokens.
⚠️ Important: Just Points Aren’t Enough
Let’s say you earned a lot of referral points and reached Tier 1. But if you didn’t share your internet — or only shared it for a few hours — you won’t get the full Tier 1 reward.
That’s because connection sharing is a must to unlock your full token potential — even if you have a high number of points.
In Simple Words:
- Grass Points don’t have a fixed token value
- Grass uses tiers to decide how many tokens you’ll get
- You’re ranked based on your activity and points compared to others
- Consistent internet sharing + quality referrals = better rewards
How Do You Get Paid on Grass?
As mentioned earlier, Grass doesn’t let you claim rewards anytime you want. Instead, rewards are distributed only through airdrops — and only after each Stage is completed.
There’s no fixed timeline for when a Stage ends. It can take several months or even over a year. Once the airdrop happens, you’ll be able to instantly claim your GRASS tokens to the wallet you’ve connected to your Grass account.
Wallets Supported by Grass
The GRASS token is built on the Solana blockchain, and Grass currently supports these wallets:
- Phantom
- Solflare
- WalletConnect
- OKX
- Backpack
- Magic Eden
- Bitget
- Gate
- ByBit
🕒 Important Wallet Deadlines
Grass gives users time to connect or change their wallet before finalizing token distribution for a Stage. But once the deadline passes, a snapshot is taken — which is then used to distribute tokens to the connected wallet. After that:
- You won’t be able to add or change your wallet
- If you forgot to connect a wallet, your rewards will remain locked until the next Stage’s airdrop
- If you wanted to switch wallets but missed the deadline, you’ll only be able to claim through the previously connected wallet
Does Grass Actually Pay?
This is one of the most common questions people ask — Does Grass really pay out rewards? And honestly, it’s a fair concern. Many platforms out there make big promises but never deliver.
Even during Stage 1, a lot of users started to doubt Grass after several months without seeing any rewards. But those who stayed consistent and continued sharing their connection were pleasantly surprised — because when the first airdrop happened, users received hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of GRASS tokens.
In my case, I personally claimed 2,800+ GRASS tokens during the first airdrop. At the time I claimed them, their total value was worth more than $6,000.
Below, you’ll find a screenshot showing the GRASS tokens successfully deposited into my connected wallet, so you can see for yourself that Grass really pays.
So yes — Grass is real, and it pays. And if you stay consistent and contribute actively, there’s serious earning potential. Just remember: it’s not instant — but it does reward long-term effort.
Will You Be Able to Swap or Sell GRASS Tokens?
Yes — once you’ve claimed your GRASS tokens, you’re free to do whatever you want with them. There are no restrictions. You can swap, sell, or hold — it’s completely your choice. Grass doesn’t force you to lock or stake any portion.
That said, staking a portion of your tokens (like 50%) is encouraged — not just to earn passive rewards, but also to strengthen the Grass ecosystem and support long-term token growth.
🌱 Staking Rewards (APR):
You can earn between 5% and 36% APR by staking your tokens — the exact rate will vary depending on the staking partner you choose.
📅 Minimum Staking Period:
Just 7 days — flexible and beginner-friendly.
So if you’re looking to grow your tokens over time, staking might be a smart move — especially if you believe in the project’s long-term potential.
Can You Get Support?
Yes — Grass does offer support.
For quick help, you can use the AI chatbot on their official website. It’s great for basic questions and account-related issues.
If you want answers from real people, head over to Grass’s official communities on X (formerly Twitter) and Discord.
For technical issues or detailed questions, the #technical-talk forum in Grass’s official Discord community is the best place. You’ll often get replies within minutes — either from the Grass support team or other experienced users.
So no worries — help is always within reach if you need it!
User Experience
Based on my experience using the Grass Chrome extension during Stage 1 and the Windows app from the beginning of Stage 2 until now — I’ve faced several connection and loading issues.
And I’m not alone. When I checked Grass’s official social channels, many users were reporting similar problems.
Grass is a promising project with long-term goals and potential to play a big role in crypto and AI training in the future. But there’s still a big issue: the extension and app often don’t work smoothly. While the extension is set to be phased out, the desktop app still needs a lot of improvement.
Sometimes, technical bugs take over a week to fix. And in some cases, updates fix old problems but introduce new ones. If this keeps happening, it could reduce user confidence in the platform over time.
The Grass team needs to put more focus on making their app stable and reliable — because solid performance is key to long-term success.
Pros:
- Passive Earning Opportunity - Earn GRASS tokens just by sharing your internet connection — no active work needed.
- Global Access - Grass is available worldwide — users from any country can join and start earning.
- No Upfront Investment - You don’t have to spend money to use Grass. It’s completely free to join and start earning.
- Real Payments - Grass has already completed its first airdrop in October 2024 — and many users earned real value (some received tokens worth thousands of dollars).
- Token Staking Available - You can earn up to 36% APR by staking your tokens with flexible terms (as short as 7 days).
- Active Community Support - Quick support available through Discord, social channels, and even an AI chatbot on the website.
Cons:
- No Fixed Payment Timeline - Airdrop rewards only come at the end of each Stage — and Stages can last over a year.
- Technical Issues - Many users have reported occasional bugs, connection drops, and delays in fixing issues — especially on the extension and desktop app.
- Reduced Rewards for Same IPs - Running multiple devices on the same network/IP will lower your rewards.
- Token Value Fluctuates - Your earnings depend on GRASS token value — which can rise or fall based on crypto market trends.
🏆Final Verdict:
Grass is unquestionably a legitimate platform that has already proven itself by rewarding millions of users with valuable GRASS tokens during its first airdrop. It offers a unique opportunity to earn passively by sharing your internet connection and referring others. The project shows strong long-term potential, and the GRASS token holds real value — which could rise even more if the platform continues to grow. Grass also offers reliable support and is compatible with most major operating systems.
On the downside, many users often experience connection or loading issues, and bug fixes can take time. The biggest concern is the long wait for airdrop rewards — there’s no fixed schedule, and each round may take several months or even over a year.
Overall, Grass isn’t for those expecting immediate rewards for their contribution. It requires patience and consistent internet sharing. But if you stay consistent and believe in the long-term vision, the rewards can be surprisingly big — even worth thousands of dollars.
Hope this article helped you understand Grass more clearly — from how it works, how it rewards users and converts Grass Points into tokens, to when airdrops happen and whether it’s truly safe. You also now know the key pros and cons.
